Join the Ballarat Tramway Museum
The Ballarat Tramway Museum Inc. is a volunteer-based organisation dedicated to conserving, for future generations, a portion of the former State Electricity Commission tramway system that operated in Ballarat until 1971.
We warmly invite you to become a member and join our enthusiastic team of volunteer supporters.
Get Involved
Members who wish to take an active role are welcome to contribute in a variety of areas, including:
- Staffing the Museum display area at the depot
- Tramcar repairs, maintenance and restoration
- Track and overhead repairs
- Conducting and driving trams
- Administrative activities, including working in our archives and collection management area
There is no obligation to participate in these activities — membership is open to anyone who wishes to support the Museum.

Benefits to Members include:
- Fares Please!, the Museum’s newsletter, issued every two months by post or email
- Free rides on the Museum’s trams
- Access to Ballarat Tramway “eNews”
- The opportunity to attend the Annual General Meeting, usually held in October or November. The AGM provides an opportunity for members to gather, with afternoon tea served following the meeting.
- Invitations to other gatherings and special days
Annual Membership Rates (GST included)
- Full Member – $55.00
- Pensioner Concession – $45.00
- Junior Supporter (Under 15 years) – $40.00
Junior Supporters receive all membership benefits but are not entitled to vote at meetings. Junior Supporters must be nominated by a parent or guardian.
A discounted rate of $70.00 is available for two or more Members and/or Junior Supporters sharing the same address.
Members who choose to receive Fares Please! by email only receive a $15.00 discount.
